Currents of Life

Rivers as Ecosystems and Cultural Pathways

ABOUT PROJECT

Our project aims to raise awareness of the importance of water. Its objectives include:

  • understanding the ecological importance of rivers and other water sources as vital ecosystems that support biodiversity and provide essential resources such as water and food;
  • promoting environmental literacy and developing a sense of responsibility towards water conservation and the sustainable use of water resources (in accordance with the priority of Environment and the fight against climate change);
  • exploring the cultural significance of rivers and other water sources by researching how water bodies have shaped human civilizations in general, as well as local communities, including their traditions, cultural practices, and attitudes towards locally significant rivers and their surroundings (rivers, reservoirs, mineral springs);
  • encouraging interdisciplinary learning by integrating subjects such as geography, history, science, and art to foster a holistic understanding;
  • developing students’ critical thinking and research skills, and enhancing their ability to analyze, interpret, and present information through research on rivers and their cultural impact, using an activity-based approach. The project aims to raise awareness through active learning, improve young people's creativity, and develop problem-solving, communication and collaboration, creativity, and innovation skills through non-formal educational tools and active participation, using modern learning approaches;
  • encouraging the active participation of young people from marginalized groups (Roma people in BG, migrants in SI and ES, as well as those from lower socio-economic backgrounds), in accordance with the priority of inclusion and diversity in all fields of education.

The project is also closely related to the development of digital skills, focusing on the use of technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate, and communicate information.
